The very foundation of Rotary lies in vocational services to its members. The original mission of Rotary was to provide members an opportunity to associate with business people of high ethical standards and customer support. We seek only the best people for our invitation-only membership and, in addition to the interaction during lunch, have periodic social gatherings to re-enforce the vocational fellowship.

From here down taken from Seneca for example.

The club also sponsors the Ballenger Award, which is given to businesses in recognition of business practices that reflect the principles of Rotary. Rotarians are not candidates for this award, but recipients are welcome to become members.

Further, the Seneca Rotary periodically visits businesses to observe their operation and learn about their products. Occasionally, the club will have a “classification talk” by a member describing the nature of their particular business. Rotary does not allow members to sell from the podium – only to present what his/her business does.
